Court remands unemployed over drugs

The Juaso Circuit Court has remanded a 22-year old unemployed, Fredrick Nimako, found with 10 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, into prison custody.

He is charged with possessing narcotic drug and his plea was not taken. He would reappear on January 18.

Police Inspector Mannaseh Obimpe told the court, presided over by Justice Alex Obeng Asante, that the accused was arrested by members of the Juaso Neighbourhood Watch Committee.

They were on their usual patrol on December 27, at about 0030 hours, when they came across a group of young men, including Nimako, engaged in a brawl.

They stepped in to help restore calm and in the process, they saw 10 wraps of dried leaves believed to be cannabis on the accused.

He was arrested and handed over to the police.
