Court remands unemployed in prison custody

Kumasi, April 21, GNA- A Kumasi circuit court on Tuesday remanded a 20-year-old unemployed in prison custody for allegedly murdering his girl friend. Patrick Kwame Boakye’s plea was not taken and will re-appear on April 27.

Boakye was said not to have taken kindly to losing the deceased, aged 20, who was his girl friend to a rival and so he stabbed her several times in the stomach and chest until she died.

Police Chief Inspector John Afful told the court that the deceased was the girl friend of the accused until sometime in March, this year, when he had reports that she was getting another man and this did not go down well with him.

Their relationship became strained and this led to quarrels between them anytime they met.

Chief Inspector Afful said on April 16, this year, the deceased visited a friend at the accused’s house at Asokwa in Kumasi and that as soon as the accused saw the deceased he rained insults on her without any provocation.

He said the deceased who did not take kindly to the insults also replied and this turned into a fierce confrontation and the accused who was wielding a knife, stabbed the deceased in the stomach and in the chest and bolted.

He was subsequently arrested at Atonsu, a suburb of Kumasi at the weekend, the prosecution said.
