Court remands two over alleged robbery

A Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Afia Adu-Amankwaah, has remanded into prison custody two alleged robbers, who attacked and seized a mobile phone valued at Ghc150.00 from a student.

Desmond Afram and Mathias Agyapong are facing charges of conspiracy and robbery.

They pleaded not guilty to the offence and were ordered to make their next court appearance on June 5.

Their accomplice, whose name was only given as Mohammed, is on the run and the police have mounted a search for him.

Police Chief Inspector Sylvanus D’almeida told the court that the accused drew a knife to rob the victim, Stephen Adjei, a final year student, on May 20 at about 2000 hours, at Tafo-Pankrono in Kumasi.

The student took a good look at his attackers and had no difficulty identifying Afram and Agyapong, when he spotted them the following day and raised the alarm for them to be arrested.

The prosecution said the police later retrieved the phone from the accused, who confessed to the crime in their caution statement.

Meanwhile, the docket had been sent to the Attorney General’s Department for direction.
