Court remands two farmers for stealing pig

Akyem Swedru (E/R), June 7, GNA – The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded Kwasi Odum and Alhaji Kasum, both farmers for stealing a pig valued at one million cedis at Oda Nkwanta in the Birim South District in the Eastern Region.

They pleaded guilty with explanation to a charge of conspiracy to steal and will re-appear on June 12.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that, on April 5, while the complainant was asleep the two accused persons sneaked into his pigpen and stole the animal. The complainant, who detected the theft of the animal the following morning conducted his own investigation and it came to light that Odum and Kasum were the culprits.

The prosecution said when they were confronted they admitted stealing the pig and promised to pay an amount of 600,000 cedis to the complainant.

A report was later made to the police and after investigations the two were arrested and charged before the court.
