Kumasi, April 6, GNA – A 24-year-old trade, who poured hot soup on a co-tenant resulting in her suffering severe burns, has been ordered by a Kumasi Circuit Court to be held in prison remand. The victim, Akua Tiwaah, is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and her condition is said to be critical. Rabi Amidu admitted the offence of causing harm and was convicted accordingly on her guilty plea.
The court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P. Amedior, however, deferred her punishment, until the condition of the victim becomes clearer. Deputy Superintendent of Police Regina Addo-Yobo told the court that the convict and Tiwaah are both traders and live at the Ghana Legion near Sofoline in Kumasi. Relations between them had been cold and that on April 1, at about 1600 hours, they picked a quarrel over human excreta found wrapped in polythene and placed in a cooking utensil belonging to Tiwaah.
The victim had left the utensil in front of her kiosk as she left to pick something and on her returned saw the parcel. The prosecution said as Rabi was the only person present in the vicinity at the time she confronted her and a brawl ensued. The convict picked a saucepan full of hot soup and poured it on Tiwaah. 06 April 11
