Court remands trader for alleged murder

Techiman (B/A) May 12, GNA – A circuit court in Techiman has remanded Mary Kyeremaah, a 60-year-old trader, for allegedly murdering her husband over 2000 cedis.

Her plea was not taken and was ordered to re-appear before the court on May 17 to answer the charge of causing the death of Mr. Krackson Okrah, also 60 and an ex-soldier.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Sampson Y. Jebuni told the court, presided over by Mr. Erasmus Gyinae, a high court judge sitting as an additional circuit court judge that the deceased and the accused quarrelled over 2000 cedis.

He said the late Okrah, who was domiciled at Asiekafour-Ammaatem in Techiman Abanim on April 23 demanded the amount from the wife but Kyeremaah, who had virtually taken over the deceased’s taxicab and a drinking bar that he acquired with his retirement benefits, refused.

A quarrel ensued between them but when the deceased later retired to bed, Kyeremaah picked a briefcase and hit the husband in the ribs with it as he slept.

Chief Inspector Jebuni said deceased, who experienced severe pains in the ribs later sent for a brother who sent him to the Holy Family hospital in Techiman and was admitted.

He was admitted but died in the early hours of the next day and after a report was made to the police Kyeremaah was arrested.
