Court remands teenager for attempted rape

A 19-year-old male has been ordered to be kept in prison custody by the Kumasi Gender Court for allegedly attempting to have sex with a 15-year-od girl.

Akwasi Agyemang pleaded not guilty to the charge and he is to reappear on March 13.

Police Chief Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the Court presided over by Justice Mrs Rita Agyemang-Budu, that the victim is a resident of Ejura whilst the accused person lived at Dromankuma, near Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

At about 1000 hours on February 15, the victim went to a nearby bush at Dromankuma in search of fire wood.

The accused person, who spotted her grabbed her and attempted to rape her, leading to the tearing of the girl’s panty and dress. She however managed to disentangle herself and escaped to the house.

She informed her parents about the ordeal and a report was made to the Ejura police, who arrested Agyeman leading to his arraignment.
