Court remands six Chinese illegal miners

The Nyinahin Magistrates’ Court presided over by Mr Sam Nibi has remanded six Chinese nationals for illegally mining for gold in the Atwima-Mponua District into prison custody.

They are Wu Wai, Li Fess, Xia Nywin, Liz Neng, Qin Guary and Huary Xing.

Their pleas were not taken, and they were ordered to re-appear on Wednesday, May 22.

Police Inspector Daniel Otabil told the court that their arrest followed an operation mounted by the District Security Committee (DISEC), to stop the growing illegal mining in the area.

The accused persons were caught in the act illegally digging for gold at different locations and were arrested.
