Akyem Swedru (E/R), Sept. 20, GNA – An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded Alexander Ahianyo, a Bursar of the Akyem Oda Hecta Education Institutions, into police custody for allegedly embezzling 33 million cedis belonging to his employers.
Ahianyo whose plea was not taken would reappear on September 28. Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah, that the complainant is the Director of Hecta Educational Institutions while the accused is a bursar of the Junior Secondary School section.
He said in February this year, the complainant detected a shortfall of cash inflows and he questioned the accused about the situation. The Court heard that a search was conducted into Ahianyo’s drawer and a duplicate receipt book, which he had been issuing out side by side with that of the school’s original booklet, was discovered. Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo said it was realised that Ahianyo had collected 8.1 million cedis for which he issued his duplicate receipt. He said when confronted, Ahianyo accepted responsibility and pleaded for leniency with a promise to refund the money.
Instead of honouring his promise, Ahianyo rather continued with his fraudulent activities, the prosecutor said, adding that a further auditing of his accounts on August 28 revealed that he had duped the School to the tune of 33 million cedis. He again wrote another promissory note to refund the money two days later but failed to do so and a report was made to the police.
