Court remands porter for causing harm

Takoradi, Feb. 4, GNA – Takoradi Circuit Court “A” on Wednesday remanded David Aheto, a porter, for inflicting deep cutlass wounds on his colleague. His plea of causing harm was not taken and he would re-appear on February 11 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kumah Mensah, said the accused and the victim, Nana Yaw Mensah, both worked for Imexco Ghana Limited, which supplies rice at the Takoradi Port He said on February 2 this year, the victim reported late for work and was queried by the accused. Chief Inspector Mensah said this caused misunderstanding between the accused and victim but they were separated when they attempted to fight. He said later, the accused was appointed leader of a group to carry rice but which did not go down well for the victim.

Chief Inspector Mensah said the misunderstanding between the two deepened and the accused became annoyed, went for a cutlass and inflicted deep wounds on the victim. He said the victim was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for treatment and had since been discharged.
