Kofi Owusu, an unemployed man who allegedly stole six bunches of plantain valued at GH¢45, has been remanded in prison custody by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District.
Owusu 35 pleaded not guilty to stealing and would reappear on January 8.
Presenting the details of the case at the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong, Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah said Mr Alfred Kwame Ahorsi, a farmer and also the complainant lives at Akim Swedru while the accused lives at Akim Oda.
Inspector Appiah said for some time now the complainant has been experiencing theft on his farm and therefore asked those that he shared common boundary with to be alert to comprehend the culprit.
The prosecutor said at about 1400 hours on December 9 last year, Mr Simon Kwadwo Mireku, a neighbour and a witness in the case saw the accused in Mr Ahorsi’s farm carrying a plastic basket full of plantain.
Inspector Appiah said Mr Mireku confronted Owusu who said he harvested the plantain from his brother’s plot of land, but could not mentioned the name of his brother.
The witness therefore raised the alarm and the accused was arrested.
