Asamankese, June 10, GNA – Yakubu Ahenkan, a 50-year-old unemployed, was on Thursday remanded for extortion and impersonation by the Asamankese Magistrate’s Court.
Ahenkan, who pleaded guilty with explanation, will re-appear on June 22.
Prosecuting, Police General Sergeant Daniel Badu Kwofie told the court presided over by Mr George Ansah Awuah that the complainant, Kwadwo Asare, resides at Estate in Asamankese whiles Ahenkan resides at Accra Newtown.
He said Ahenkan approached the complainant’s father at Asamankese and during interaction he posed as an ex-captain in the Ghana Army.
The prosecutor said Ahenkan informed the complainant’s father that he had been assisting young people to get enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces.
He said with that false representation, Ahenkan collected GH¢ 150.00 from the complainant to buy enlistment forms and other miscellaneous items.
The prosecutor said in May Ahenkan went into hiding after receiving the money.
On June 06 the complainant spotted Ahenkan and raised the alarm and Ahenkan was arrested and handed over to the police.
