Court remands man for assault, defilement

Tarkwa (W/R), Nov. 20, GNA – A 45-year-old farmer, Seidu Musah Moshie, who assaulted two police detectives and threatened to shoot them has been remanded in prison custody by a Tarkwa circuit court, presided over by Mr Bright Dzebre.

The two policemen were detailed to effect the arrest of Moshie who was alleged to have defiled an 11-year-old girl at Dakonfomu, a farming village near Samreboi in the Western Region.

He pleaded not guilty to four counts of assault, threat of death, resisting arrest and defilement.

Detectives Sergeant A.M. Coffie and Nunoo Mensah of Samreboi Police Station however, managed to overpower Moshie and arrested him and took him to the Samreboi police station.

Giving the facts of the case the prosecutor, Inspector Constance Addo told the court that, the victim lives with her family at Dakonfomu, whereas the accused lives at Adamfom Kura, near the victim’s house.

Inspector Addo said in March this year, the mother of the victim travelled to Bawku, her hometown to visit her family leaving the victim in the care of her elder brother.

The prosecutor added that, the accused with the pretext of going to the victim’s house to buy a cigarette took advantage of the absence of her mother and her brother, forced the door opened and defiled her.

Inspector Addo said that after the act, Moshie promised the girl a piece of meat if she kept what had happened secret, but the victim reported the incident to her brother who also later told her mother when she returned from her journey and the case was reported to the police.

The prosecutor said a medical examination confirmed that the girl had been defiled.

The accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
