Goaso (B/A) June 14, GNA – A circuit court at Goaso in Asunafo North district of Brong Ahafo has remanded a 35-year old loading boy, Kwaku Adu, in prison custody for possessing a substance suspected to be Indian hemp and showing gross insubordination towards a police officer. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing Indian hemp but pleaded not guilty to insubordination and would reappear before the court on June 21 2006.
Prosecuting, Inspector Douglas Asana told the court, presided by Mr. Charles Quampah that the complainant, Chief Superintendent Kofi Asare, Police divisional commander in-charge of Goaso, on June 1 this year asked some drivers picking passengers near the main lorry station to enter the station to do so.
The prosecutor said this directive from the police commander did not go down well with the accused and other passengers and they hurled insults on the Commander.
The driver of the police vehicle in which the Commander was managed to arrest the accused and during a search on him at the police station, some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found. Meanwhile, the suspected leaves have been sent to the police forensic laboratory for examination.
