Court remands husband for defrauding his wife

Asamankese(E/R), Nov. 8, GNA – The Asamankese Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah has remanded one Osei Owusu Bernard in custody on two counts of defrauding by false pretences and stealing. He pleaded guilty and will reappear on November 24. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Osei Owusu said Bernard met the complainant, Augusta Addai at a prayer camp and proposed to marry her. Augusta subsequently provided over seven million cedis for the wedding ceremony.

Inspector Osei Owusu said soon after the wedding, Bernard left his matrimonial home at Suhum unceremoniously. Bernard went to Suhum after two months and collected one million cedis cash from his wife and issued a dud cheque of 10 million cedis to her.

Inspector Osei Owusu said on January 8, this year, Augusta detected that her ornaments and personal effects have been stolen by the accused.

Bernard admitted the offence when a relative of Augusta spotted him in Accra and caused his arrest.
