Court remands farmer for stealing generator

Mankranso (Ash), Aug 8, GNA – The Mankranso magistrate court last Thursday remanded a 21-year-old farmer into prison custody for stealing a generator valued at 10 million cedis belonging to a video centre at Tanoso near Kumasi.

Kwaku Amoah pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on August 9.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Gabienu told the court, presided over by Mr. Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on July 9, this year, after the day’s operations, the video operator locked the centre and went to bed. He said, however, that the next day when he went to work and opened the centre, he found that some items including the generator were missing.

ASP Gabienu said during his own investigations, the operator was given a tip-off and so he arrested Amoah and handed him over to the Abuakwa police and during interrogation, he admitted stealing the generator but said he stole it from Abrepo, a suburb of Kumasi. He said, however, that when the police took him to Abrepo and other places he mentioned, Amoah could not show them the place where he stole the generator from and was consequently charged with the offence.
