Court remands farmer for defiling mentally-challenged girl

A Circuit Court at Fiapre in the Sunyani West District, has remanded a 36-year old farmer, into prison custody for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year old mentally-challenged girl.

The accused person, John Appiah, alias “Yaw Rawlings,” pleaded not guilty to a charge of defilement, but the court presided over by Mr. Yaw Owoahene Acheampong, remanded him to re-appear on Tuesday, June 9.

Police Chief Inspector Alex Ofosu, told the court that the victim informed her mother that the accused person had sexual intercourse with her two months ago.

According to the prosecutor, the victim’s mother did not take her daughter serious due to her (victim’s) moronic nature, but he added that she (mother) later discovered that the victim had not menstruated in the past two months.

Chief Inspector Ofosu said the victim’s father upon hearing the information reported the incident to the Police which led to the arrest of the accused person.

He said medical examination conducted revealed that the victim was 17 weeks pregnant.
