Court remands farmer for defilement

A 50-year-old farmer who allegedly defiled a six- year-old girl at Etwereso in the Akyemansa District has appeared before a circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region.

John Sampson, popularly called “Abizibey” is accused of defiling a girl under 15 years of age.

He denied the offence and the court presided over by Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong, remanded him in custody to reappear on May 21.

Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Kwaku Antwi told the court that the victim lives with her grandmother at Etwereso, where the accused person also stays.

He said on April 17, the girl accompanied her grandmother to a nearby farm and at 1530 hours, she went home to drink water.

Chief Inspector Antwi said the victim’s grandmother heard a loud shout followed by crying, so she followed up and met the girl returning to the farm.

He said the girl, who was bleeding profusely, informed her grandmother about the ordeal Abizibey had subjected her to.

He said when the culprit was confronted, he told the grandmother that “it was the work of the devil.”

Chief Inspector Antwi said the victim’s grandmother made a report to the police, who issued a medical report form to the victim to attend hospital for treatment while Sampson was arrested.
