Court remands Ex-Cop for stealing

Kwabena Ayisi, an ex-policeman was on Tuesday remanded in police custody on for allegedly stealing the personal belongings of his two girlfriends valued at three million cedis.

He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on April 14.

Ayisi was accused of stealing a tape recorder, a standing fan and a gas cylinder belonging to his two girlfriends.

Police Chief Inspector John K. Afful told the court presided over Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that in December last year the ex-cop met Amma Pokuah, a trader at a funeral and proposed love to her.

He said in the course of their courtship, the accused asked Pokuah to move into his apartment at Prabon, near Sewuah so that they could stay together and she obliged.

However, a few days after Pokuaa moved her belongings into Ayisi’s apartment at Prabon, the accused vanished and could not be traced.

The Prosecution said unknown to Pokuah, her lover had taken another girlfriend called Bertha, who he was dating at Abuakwa and that initially, the accused asked Bertha also to move her belongings to his apartment but she refused and sent only a gas cylinder.

He said Pokuah then had a hint about her lover’s relationship with a new woman and so she went to Abuakwa to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the information and when she confronted Bertha, she confirmed her relationship with the Ex-Cop.

Chief Inspector Afful said Bertha became furious when she realised that the accused had impregnated Pokuah and still wanted to befriend her and consequently reported to the Police and Ayisi was arrested.

He said when the accused was interrogated as to the whereabouts of the items belonging to the two women, he told the Police that some armed robbers broke into his apartment at Prabon in his absence and stole the items.
