An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded one Jonathan Armah, a driver, for conspiring with one Joe, now at large, to rob a Nissan Mica taxi, worth GH?12,000.00.
Jonathan pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery but was remanded by the court into police custody to reappear on November 17.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Patrick Morkeh told the court that the complainant is a taxi driver in charge of a Nissan Mica taxi, while the accused person is also a driver and resides at Teshie.
He said on December 28, at about 03:00 hours, Jonathan and the said Joe hired the complainant from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to La township for a fare of GH?7.00.
He said at about 03:30 hours when they arrived at Lantey George, a suburb of La, the two ordered the complainant to surrender the ignition key of the car, but the complainant refused. They then pounced on the complainant.
DSP Morkeh said the two accused persons struggled with the complainant, but he held onto the steer of the car, and the taxi entered into a gutter.
He told the court that the complainant upon sensing danger ahead shouted for help, which awoke the people in the vicinity who came to his aid and rescued him.
The prosecution said Jonathan was arrested, while his accomplice took to his heels. Not quite long, the La police patrol team arrived at the scene and Jonathan was handed over to them.
A complaint was lodged against the accused person and in his caution statement admitted the offence. He, however, denied knowing the residence of his accomplice.
