Court remands driver in prison custody over robbery

A 28-year-old driver, who together with one other person on the run, allegedly twice attacked and robbed an auto electrician of his cash and cellular phone, has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Joseph Ayamba Azuraa has been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to make his next appearance on Tuesday, July 04.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Philip Bidipume Jagri, told the court, presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire that the first incident happened on May 17, at Krofrom.

The victim was relaxing behind a drinking bar when Azuraa and his accomplice, Isaac, suddenly emerged, pulled a gun, forcibly seized his phone and cash of GH?650.00, and fled.

The prosecution said, the pair again attacked the victim and his family on June 01, in his house at dawn, but managed to escape on an unregistered motorbike and a report was made to the police.

Azuraa was later arrested with a brand new motorbike, suspected to have been stolen and the cellular phone earlier seized from the victim.

In his caution statement to the police, he confessed to the crime.
