Court remands drinking bar operator for defilement

Agona Swedru, May 22, GNA – An Agona Swedru Circuit Court on Thursday remanded into prison custody a drinking bar operator at Agona Duakwa, when he made his second appearance before the court, for alleged defiling 14 year-old girl. Kobina Baah, 28 maintained his plea of not guilty and would reappear in court on June 16, 2010.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Harold Narr Koffie told the court presided over by Mr Nathaniel K. Osam, that the victim is a house-help while the accused was a drinking bar operator, both living in the same vicinity at Duakwa in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

He said on April 6, 2010, the accused came to the house of girl and when he was going back home, he asked for permission from the victim’s aunty to allow her accompany him to collect a bottle of Fanta for the Aunty.

Chief Inspector Koffie said when they entered the bar, the accused dragged her into the second chamber of the bar, removed her pants and forcibly had sex with her. Chief Inspector Koffie said after the act, Baah warned the girl not to tell anybody else she would die.

Three day later the aunty of the girl questioned the girl about her unusual walking and she narrated her ordeal to her, the prosecution said. The aunty reported the matter to the Agona Nsaba Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Chief Inspector Koffie said the police issued a police medical form to the victim and after examination by a Medical Officer at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital, it was confirming that the girl had been defiled, resulting in the broken of her hymen.
