Court remands corn mill operator over robbery

A corn mill operator, who together with one other person on the run, allegedly attacked and robbed a taxi driver of his mobile phone and cash of GH? 360 has been remanded into prison by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kwaku Mintah, alias “Killer”, pleaded not guilty and would make his next appearance on Monday, November 16.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court, presided over by Mrs. Afua Adu-Amankwah, that the incident happened on June 15, at about 2300 hours.

Mintah and his fugitive colleague, identified only as “Agolo”, engaged the services of the victim, Isaac Amoh, to carry them in his taxi from the Suame Roundabout to Kwadaso-Nsuom.

The prosecution said midway through the journey, the accused drew a knife and ordered him to surrender everything on him or get killed.

Fearing for his life, he let go his “T”-mobile phone valued at GH? 500 and the day’s sales of GH? 360.

Police Chief Inspector Akowuah said as the pair flung the door of the car open, to escape with their booty, Amoh raised the alarm – shouted for help and that attracted the attention of some passersby.

They arrested Mintah after a hot chase, but Agolo managed to slip through.
