Court remands accused in prison for narcotic drugs

Cape Coast, Jan. 30, GNA – A Cape Coast Circuit court on Tuesday, remanded Peter Wilson alias, Rasta 27, unemployed in prison custody for allegedly possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. His plea was not taken and would re-appear on Tuesday, February 27. Police Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Justice Beresford Acquah that on January 24, at about 1930 hours the police in an operation to clamp down criminals, within Cape Coast Municipality arrested Wilson at Ntsin, a suburb of Cape Coast.

He said 98 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found on him and after investigations charged with the offence. In another development, the court granted Kofi Sarpong, a car dealer 100 million cedis bail with two sureties to be justified, for allegedly possessing fake vehicle documents.

His plea was not taken and ordered to report to the police twice a week until Thursday, March 1 when he would re-appear.

The prosecution’s case was that Sarpong allegedly sold a car with fake documents to the complainant who was arrested in Accra by officials of Customs, Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS).

He said the complainant reported the matter to the police; Sarpong was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
