Court remands 21 people for rioting

Akyem Swedru, March 23, GNA- The Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Friday remanded 21 people into prison custody for rioting with offensive weapons at Akyem Gyadam and Oda Nkwanta in the Birim South District. The accused persons whose plea was not taken would reappear on April 12.

They are, Ato Kwamena, Kwaku Prince, Moro Seidu, Kwaku Boateng, Louis Seidu, Stephen Mireku, Kwabena Nkrumah, Kofi Asare, Kofi Owusu, Evans Boye, Kofi Moses, Kwesi Yeboah and Isaac Frimpong. The rest were Yaw Prince, Kwesi Appiah, Kofi Anim, Kwesi Aboagye, Yaw Kwakye, Kwadwo Ofori, Yaw Danso and Yaw Boye.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that on March 18, a football match between teams from the two towns later degenerated into an open for all fight among supporters from both sides. He said the situation escalated the following day and when police personnel went to the scene to protect life and property, the accused persons were seen rioting with such offensive weapons as guns, cutlasses, axes and stones and were arrested.
