Court remand porter for stealing provisions

Isaac Quayson, a 20-year-old porter has been remanded into prison custody for stealing provisions valued at GH?200 by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on June 1.

Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo, the judge who presided over the case decided to grant the accused person bail but he noted that he has no permanent place of abode.

Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy, told the court that the complainant is a petty trader residing at Tarkwa Banso while the accused is a squatter at the Tarkwa Railway Station.

He said at about 1530 hours on May 18, the complainant bought assorted items and placed them in a box in front of the shop.

Inspector Paddy said the accused emerged at the scene carried the box and took to his heels.

The Prosecutor said the accused was chase by those nearby, was arrest, beaten and handed over to the police.

He said the accused in his cautioned statement, claimed someone he could not identify asked him to bring the box containing the items.**
