Court refuses bail application for SSB Bank Official

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA – Cephas Asuo, a Systems Analyst of the SSB Bank, charged for altering documents and stealing monies totalling 1.1 billion cedis from the Bank was on Monday refused bail by an Accra Circuit Court.

This was after Mr Maurice Ampaw, his Counsel, prayed the court to grant his client bail because he had been in custody for a number of days.

He said the offence under which his client had been charged did not constitute those that bail could not be granted.

DSP Elizabeth Alormatu, who held brief for Inspector Bennett Sarfo, objected to bail saying the Police was still investigating and asked for a number of days to enable them to complete the investigations.

The Court, therefore, adjourned the case to September 19. The facts of the case are that the Bank recently reviewed its operations and detected that Asuo, who is with the Information Technology Department, had manipulated the software of the computers and succeeded in withdrawing 1.1 billion cedis.
