Court orders reinstatement of 700 Methodist University students

A Human Rights Court has ordered the reinstatement of 700 students of the Methodist University College Ghana for wrongful dismissal.

According to the court, it was against the human rights of the students to be withdrawn since that will impede their right to education.

Giving its ruling Thursday, the court therefore slapped a fine of Gh¢10, 000 each on the Methodist University College Ghana and the National Accreditation Board.

The University withdrew the students because their certificates did not meet the minimum requirement for admission after they have been admitted for over a year and paid fees.

As a result of the court case, the university authorities allowed the students to remain and write their final examination pending the outcome of the case.

The University officials said they were only acting on the orders of the Accreditation Board.
