Court orders homeopathic practitioner to regularise operations

Accra, Aug. 19, GNA – A 65-year-old homeopathic practitioner, who was arrested for using unregistered drugs at his clinic, has been ordered by an Accra Circuit Court to secure the necessary documents to enable him practice.

Saeed Kwesi Adu, who had practiced for 17 years, pleaded guilty for using unregistered drugs and the court convicted him to a fine of GH¢450 or in default go to jail for six months.

Although the accused denied the charge of operating under unsanitary condition, the court struck that out for want of prosecution.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) A.A. Annor, prosecuting told the court that the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) received several reports from the public that Adu was preparing drugs under unhygienic conditions and selling to the public.

ASP Annor said management of FDB therefore dispatched a team to Adu’s premises and they saw that the packaging and storage of the drugs were done under unhygienic conditions.

The FDB officials, the prosecutor said arrested Adu and handed him over to the Narcotics Control Board of the Ghana Police Service.

ASP Annor said investigation revealed that the drugs prepared by the accused had not been registered.

Meanwhile, Adu through his counsel said he had applied to FDB but had not received any response.
