Court orders Ghana Telecom to freeze cell phone service

An Accra High Court has placed an injunction on Ghana Telecom restraining it from operating its ONEtouch service on the frequencies of Mobitel and Spacefon until the determination of suits filed by two mobile phone service operators.

Scancom Ghana- operators of Spacefon and Millicom Ghana- operators of Mobitel are among others seeking general damages from Ghana Telecom, and an interim injunction restraining the NCA from allocating any part of their frequencies to Ghana Telecom.

Following the injunction order, Ghana Telecom cannot offer some of the services it has been offering its customers.

An official of the company told JOY FM that its solicitors are seeking an order for a stay of execution pending the determination of an appeal filed at the Court of appeal. The official noted that services disrupted, as a result of the injunction order will resume as soon as the legal processes are sorted out.
