Nkawie (Ash), May 19, GNA – The Nkawie magistrate court last Friday ordered a 29-year-old driver, Osei Kwabena to apologise to a policewoman he insulted while she was performing her duties. The driver will go to jail for one-week if he fails to render the apology.
The court also bonded him to be of good behaviour on the road and particularly towards the police for 12 months or in default will serve six months prison term.
He had earlier been fined one million cedis for road obstruction and failing to produce an advance-warning triangle. Osei Kwabena pleaded guilty to the charge and will serve a 12-month jail sentence in default of the fine.
Chief Inspector Joseph Gabienu told the court, presided over by Mr Beresford Safo Acquah, that at about 2150 hours on April 21, this year, police at the Abuakwa snap checkpoint stopped Osei’s vehicle, which was from Sunyani heading to Kumasi.
He said the police demanded to see his warning triangle, which he did not have and so he was asked to park properly. Chief Inspector Gabienu said Osei Kwabena became offended and got off the vehicle, which was in the middle of the road, thereby causing obstruction.
He said Osei rained insults on Sergeant Mavis Akom who was on duty with other police personnel telling her “you are mad. You should infect your family with your madness”.
Chief Inspector Gabienu said the police therefore decided to arrest him but he put up a fierce resistance and it took the police sometime to overpower him.
