Court orders arrest of former financial firm employee

Accra, March 10, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra on Tuesday ordered the arrest of Helena Mawusi Blay, a former employee of First Allied Savings and Loans Company, a financial firm, for failing to appear before it to answer a charge of stealing preferred against her. Helena is said to have stolen GH¢2,841 belonging to the company. She is said to have collected money from 75 people who paid their daily ‘susu’ contributions to her while she was working for the company but failed to account for it.

The prosecution said the company employed Helena as a customer intermediary who went round to collect daily contributions from customers and deposited them in their account. However, somewhere in July last year, the company detected that she had not been depositing money she collected from customers into their accounts.

The prosecution said Helena could neither account for nor refund the money.
