Court jails woman for harming son

The Akim Swedru Circuit Court has sentenced a woman to four years imprisonment for burning her son’s arm and leg with a hot electric iron.

Cecilia Boadua, 26, pleaded guilty to causing unlawful harm.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang, told the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong that an officer of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Birim South District is the complainant.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said Boadu and her five-year-old son live at Akim Oda.

According to the prosecutor for some time now the complainant had been receiving information about the maltreatment of the victim.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said on May 3 this year, Boadua saw the son with a play-mate who she had warned him not to play with, and in anger used the hot electric iron to burnt the child leg and arm.

The prosecutor said the NCCE Officer having heard of the previous maltreatment of the boy reported Boadua to the Police, and she was arrested.
