Fiapre (B/A), Sept. 8, GNA – A circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani, has jailed a 35-year-old watchman for 25 years in hard labour for robbing at gun point a farmer at Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Yaw Sam pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery.

Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi told the court presided over by Mr. Benjamin Osei that the complainant, Mr Daniel Naami, a farmer, and Sam resided at Yeji.

The prosecution said at about 2200 hours on August 17 this year, Sam, who was on duty at the Lake side at Yeji saw the complainant attending to nature’s call in the bush.

Chief Insp. Baafi said Mr Naami on seeing Sam took to his heels but Sam chased him and threatened him (complainant) with a locally manufactured pistol.

The prosecution said Sam removed a mobile phone from Naami’s pocket and asked him (Naami) to leave the area.

Chief Insp. Baafi said the complainant informed the Assembly Member for the area about Sam’s conduct and the Assembly Member reported the matter to the police.

He said when the police went to arrest Sam at his work place, they found two locally manufactured pistols on him.

Chief Insp. Baafi said when Sam was interrogated by the police he admitted the offence.

The court ordered that the two pistols should be kept by the police.
