Court jails two for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs Abena Adjin Doku, has sentenced Samuel Bortey, and Alex Ametepey Tetteh, both unemployed, to 20 years imprisonment each for robbery and conspiracy.

The convicts would serve 20 years for robbery and an additional 20 years for conspiracy to commit crime. Both sentences would run concurrently

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainants in the case were an Ex-Soldier and an Internal Auditor, residing at Agblezaa.

He said on September 30, 2013 at about 0100 hours, six young men armed with locally manufactured pistols, machetes and iron bar broke into the premises of the complainants and subjected them to severe beatings and made away with GH? 500.00, two laptops, jewelries and four mobile phones.

He said on October 24, the same year, a certain young man who was a witness in the case was found using one of the stolen mobile phones.

The Prosecution said when he was confronted, he named Samuel as the person who gave it to him and led police to arrest the convict.

“In his investigation caution statement, Samuel admitted the offence and mentioned Alex and others as his accomplices,” he added.

He said on October 26, 2013, Alex was arrested and in his investigation caution statement admitted the offences.
