Court jails tile layer for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, has sentenced Emmanuel Lamptey, a tile layer to 15 years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The convict was jailed after a full trial.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Martin Acheampong said the complainant in the case was a sales officer at a cement shop at Kasoa.

He said on November 27, 2014, at about 1430 hours, the complainant was in her shop, when the convict, together with his accomplice, now on the run, entered the shop.

He said according to the complainant, Emmanuel suddenly pulled a locally manufactured pistol and pointed at the sales lady to keep quiet and surrender all her money.

The prosecution said the convict then pulled out the complainant’s drawer and took GHC1,300 and telecommunication recharge cards valued at GHC194.

He said after robbing the complainant, the convict and his accomplice took to their heels, but the complainant shouted for help and in response the people around chased them.

“While running away, the convict was giving warning shots but the people pursued the convict and his accomplice and managed to arrest Emmanuel,” the prosecutor said.
