Court jails robber for 50 years

Kumasi, July 21, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey has sentenced a member of a robbery gang to 50 years imprisonment.

Boakye Konadu, together with three others now on the run, on July 7 attacked and robbed an internet caf=E9 at Bomso in Kumasi.

They carried away two laptops, server, five system units, cellular phones and cash belonging to the caf=E9 operator and clients who were at the time using the facility.

He pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and robbery but denied that of attempted rape.

Mr Richard Osei-Hwere, a State Attorney, told the court that Mr Kelvin Numekpor is an attendant of the Baseline Caf=E9 at Bomso and this is where the convict also lives.

On July 7, at about 2000 hours, whilst at work Konadu and two of his accomplices entered the caf=E9 and pretended they were there to browse. All of a sudden the convict pulled out a locally manufactured pistol and ordered all to lie down as they locked the door to prevent anyone from entering.

The State Attorney said having secured the place they seized the laptops, server, system units, phones and cash from the attendant and the clients.

He said Konadu also attempted to rape a lady victim, Sabina Sossuo-Gloh but could not as she fiercely resisted. That angered him and he hit her with a chair in the mid-section.

They escaped with their booty in a taxi cab, parked close to the cafe. Luck eluded Konadu when some days later, the complainant spotted him and with the assistance of some passersby arrested him.

Two locally manufactured pistols, three live cartridges were found on him.
