Court jails laptop thieves

Akim Oda (E/R), Jan. 16, GNA – The Akim Oda Magistrate Court on Frid= ay sentenced two people to a total of 48 months in prison for stealing the property of Master Isaac Fiagbomeh, a student, valued at GH¢1,700. Prosper Gblenyoh, unemployed and Prince Asiedu, a driver, stole a laptop computer and a video deck belonging to the complainant. Gblenyoh pleaded guilty to three counts of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing and was sentenced to 12 months in hard labour o= n each count to run consecutively.

Asiedu pleaded not guilty to abetment of crime and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour.

An accomplice in the case, Yaw Manu is on the run.

Briefing the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, Detective Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah said at about 2000 hours on December 31, 2010 th= e complainant left home for 93watch night church service” at Akim Swedru a= nd when he returned the following day at about 0600 hours, he detected that hi= s burglar proof door had been broken into while his room had been ransacked. He said the two convicts, destroyed the ceiling fan of the complainan= t and made away with the items.

Inspector Ahenkorah said a witness in the case hinted the complainant that Asiedu was in the process of selling a laptop that contained his picture and the police was immediately informed. He said Asiedu was arrested and mentioned Gblenyoh as the source of th= e stolen items and was also apprehended and led the police to Agona Swedru t= o retrieve the stolen items. Manu who received the stolen goods however managed to abscond.
