Court jails labourer 10 years for defilement

Accra, Oct. 19, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr. S.K. Asiedu on Wednesday sentenced a 25 year-old labourer to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a nine-year-old girl. Bismark Damoah, alias Nana Kwame, pleaded guilty. Police Chief Inspector Lawrence Gbele told the crowded court that the accused lured the girl into his room with the excuse of sending her on an errand.

He said Bismark put the girl on his bed and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

Inspector Gbele said after the act, the accused gave the girl 5,000 cedis and warned her not to disclose what transpired between them to anyone. He said a few days later, the victim confessed to her mother when she detected that her daughter had been defiled and this led to the arrest of Bismark.
