Court jails illegal miner 15 years

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced an illegal miner to 15 years imprisonment for defiling a two year-old girl at Kaniakor in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.

Kennedy Osei, 36, was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Robert Acquah, is the father of the victim.

She said around 1800 hours on September 29, the victim was nowhere to be found in the house and all efforts made by her parents to trace her proved futile.

The prosecutor said around 2200 hours that same day someone was returning home when he spotted the victim standing alone in a bush holding her pants and beads with a man standing by her.

Inspector Tawiah said because it was dark, the witness could not identify the man but took the victim to the parents and they discovered that she was bleeding from her private part.

According to the prosecutor, some of the residents in the town conducted a search around the area and saw Osei hiding in a pit.

She said the convict was arrested and handed over to the police.
