Court jails female thieves for stealing

Sekondi, Dec. 16, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced Alberta Aidoo to 24 months imprisonment and Nana Ekua to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing personal belongings of some female students of the Takoradi Polytechnic. The accused persons pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal, unlawful entry and stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said on November 11, 2004, the accused persons, who were resident at Effiakuma, broke into the room of some female students of the Takoradi Polytechnic at a private hostel Effiakuma New Site and stole some personal belongings.

He said items stolen included cash, sandals, under wears, calculators, textbooks, wristwatches and spectacles.

Sergeant Andam said the students woke up at 0400 hours, and found their room ransacked and some personal belongings missing.

He said, the students reported the matter to the Police, who arrested the accused during investigations. They admitted the offence during interrogation. 16 Dec. 04
