Court jails farmer for stealing motorbike

Juaso (Ash), Nov. 16, GNA – A 24-year-old farmer has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court for stealing a motorbike worth GH¢ 450 at Juansah in the Asante Akim North District.

Akwasi Osei, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.

Police Detective Inspector Mike Fritz Bekoe, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr. S. K. Sarpong Appiah that the complainant was a motorbike mechanic at Juansah while the accused was a farmer who live at Domeabra.

He said in May, one Akwasi Afoakwa sent his motorbike to the complainant’s workshop for repairs. On September 27 the complainant locked and parked the bike in front of his house but woke up the next morning to discover that it had been stolen and reported the matter to the Police.

Upon a tip-off, the Police traced the bike to the room of the accused who admitted stealing it and was thereby arraigned.
