Court jails farmer 26 years for attempted rape

Tarkwa (W/R), Nov 8, GNA – Yaw Fuakye, a farmer at Sefwi Asafo was on Tuesday jailed 26 years for attempted rape, unlawful entry and assault by a Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mr John Ajet-Nasam. He was sentenced on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Inspector Oscar Amponsah of the Tarkwa Police said both the complainant and the accused were farmers in the Western Region town of Sefwi Asafo.

He said on October 27, 2006, at about 0300 hours, the accused, armed with a knife and torchlight, sneaked into the room of the complainant while she was asleep.

Inspector Amponsah said the accused undressed the complainant in an attempt to rape her but she woke up and in the ensuing struggle held onto his penis.

He said in his attempt to free himself, the accused bit the woman’s right nipple and the middle finger.

All this time, the woman held onto the Fuakye’s penis firmly while she screamed and attracted the attention of neighbours who helped to arrest the accused and handed him over to the Sefwi Asafo Police, the Court heard.
