A Cape Coast Magistrate’s court on Wednesday sentenced a 21-year- old car washer to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour on his own plea for stealing car parts worth GH¢5140.00.
The parts belonged to the complainant, Mr. Emmanuel Yamoah Tenkorang, a research fellow at the University of Cape Coast.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court presided over by Mr. Ohemeng Mensah, that the complainant who owns a Nissan patrol vehicle sent it for maintenance and servicing at a fitting shop at Kakumdo, a suburb in Cape Coast on February 25.
He said on April 20, the complainant visited the shop to check on his vehicle but detected that some parts of the vehicle had been stolen and therefore asked the shop attendant and the owner of the fitting shop to explain what happened.
Inspt Anku also went to lodge a complaint with the police.
He said a witness in the case who is a scrap dealer informed the police that the convict had brought some goods to him to sell which included fuel pump worth GH¢850.00, an alternator worth GH¢1,500.00, Piston GH¢840.00,starter worth GH¢1,500.00 and a water pump worth GH¢450.00.
He said Sam was arrested and upon interrogation he admitted stealing the items and led the police to retrieve them.**
