Court jails businesswoman for drugs

Accra, Dec. 5, GNA – A businesswoman from whose wardrobe at Tudu in Accra the police retrieved 300 wrappers of cocaine and eight wrappers of cannabis has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Aminatu Sugah, charged with possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority, pleaded not guilty.

The court, however, found her guilty at the end of the trial.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric Amoako, the prosecutor, told the court that at about 1700 hours on July 11, 2006, personnel of the Greater Accra Regional CID had a tip-off that the occupants of House number E45/1 at Tudu had a consignment of narcotic drugs.

The prosecution said the team proceeded to the location and arrested Aminatu in a room.

According to the prosecutor, when a search was

conducted in the rooms 300 wrappers suspected to be cocaine were

found concealed in a wardrobe. Eight wrappers and a small quantity of dried leaves

suspected to be cannabis sativa (wee) and cash of 5.15 million cedis

(GHC 515) suspected to be proceeds from the sale of the drugs

were also found by police.
