Court issues bent warrant for contractor’s arrest

A Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Court, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a Kumasi-based building contractor, who allegedly dumped piles of refuse at the Sofo Line Market.

According to a source at the Sanitation Unit of the KMA, Mr. Emmanuel Boateng, the contractor with support from some Police Officers, dumped the about 12 separate heaps of refuse at the market about two months ago.

The source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi that the bench warrant was issued because Mr. Boateng had failed to appear before the court after several notices.

The source noted that the sanitation situation at the market was very poor, and that could lead to the outbreak of diseases.

It appealed to the general public to assist in the arrest of the road contractor for prosecution, while it sought alternative funding to evacuate the refuse dump.

The source lamented that the action of Mr. Boateng was contrary to efforts by President John Dramani Mahama, to promote environmental cleanliness in the country.
