Court imposes fine on two farmers for fighting

Bibiani (W/R), Feb. 20, GNA – A magistrate court at Bibiani, has imposed fines on Kwame Ali Mohammed, 30, farm caretaker and Akwasi Akyerem, 32, also a farmer, for fighting. Mohammed who was fined GH¢80 would serve one month imprisonment in default while Akyerem who was fined GH¢120 would go to jail for six months in default.

Chief Inspector Alexander Atuobi told the court presided over by Mr. Osei Kofi Amoako that the accused persons were residents of Kyei and “Ohene Akuraa” respectively near Sefwi-Bekwai in the Western Region. He said Akyerem’s father entrusted his land to Mohammed to cultivate cocoa on ‘Abunu’ (share cropping) basis. Prosecution said after the death of Akyerem’s father, the family shared the farm between Mohammed and Akyerem’s elder sister. Chief Insp. Atuobi said Akyerem allegedly become angry and started stealing Mohammed’s fermented cocoa beans.

Prosecution said on December 30, 2008, Mohammed confronted Akyerem for allegedly stealing his cocoa resulting in a fight between the two accused persons.
