Court grants teacher 100 million cedis bail for defilement

Kumasi, March 27, GNA – A 26-year-old teacher, Richard Fiifi Quansah standing trial for defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old school girl, was on last Thursday granted a 100 million-cedi bail with two sureties by a Kumasi circuit court.

He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on April 14.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Janet Serwaa told the court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmrosa that, Quansah, a teacher at the Okomfo Anokye Junior Secondary School, proposed love to the victim who is a pupil in the school and won her over.

Quansah then took her to a drinking spot, bought her a bottle of Guinness and carried her to a hotel at Bomso, a suburb of Kumasi, where he defiled her.

Having satisfied himself, he gave the girl 20,000 cedis for her transport and warned her never to mention her ordeal to anyone. The prosecutor said sometime after her defilement, she started showing signs of pregnancy and the parents subsequently took her to a medical facility where upon examination, she was confirmed pregnant. The victim mentioned Quansah as being responsible for the pregnancy.

She said Quansah admitted the offence during questioning by officers at the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Police Service after his arrest.
