Court grants Omanhene and five others bail

Tarkwa (W/R), Jan. 26, GNA – A Tarkwa circuit court on Monday granted bail in the sum of 100 million cedis each to Nana Yaw Gyebi, Omanhene of Sefwi-Anhwiaso Traditional Area and five others for destruction.

They were alleged to have demolished seven stores, which had reached lintel level at Degede, a suburb of Bibiani on New Year’s eve. The five others are Kwaku Eluo, J.K. Affi, Yaw Kwarteng, Asamoah and David Okoro, a Nigerian.

They all pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on February 2. They have also been charged with abetment of crime, causing damages, threat of death and rescue of a suspect from lawful custody.

Police Chief Inspector J.N. Adotey told the court, presided over by Mr John Adjei Nasam, that on the eve of New Year, Nana Gyebi led a group of land guards and armed with guns to demolish seven stores, which had reached lintel level and being developed by one Richard Ackah. The police have mounted an intensive search for 16 other suspects in connection with the case.
