Court grants gold buyer bail

Tarkwa, Sept 30, GNA – A 27-year-old gold buyer, Christopher Fianu, has been granted bail in the sum of GHc4, 000 for buying gold valued at GHc3, 400 for GHc 190.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on October 18.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Mr Frank Mensah, is a small scale miner.

He said on September 2, the complainant kept gold valued GHc 3,400 in his bag and went to work and when he returned in the evening he noticed that someone had entered his room and made away with the gold.

Mr Mensah suspected one Paul Tampah whom he lived with and made a report to the police.

The prosecutor said on September 10, the complainant arrested Tampa at his hide out at Cape Coast and handed him over to the Police.

He said Tampah admitted the offense and told the Police that he sold the gold to Fianu for GHc 190.
